1. also known as tetraethoxymethane. colorless ether-like odor liquid. boiling point 159℃. relative density 0.9197 g/ml, flash point -24°c (52°c). refractive index 1.3935. easily soluble in ethanol and ether. reacts with ammonia to form guanidine and ethanol; reacts with grignard reagent (rmgx) to form orthoester [rc(oc2h5)3].
